This few de joie falls every year on the full moon day of the Chaitra bright fortnight (April) at Balaju Baisdhara in Kathmandu. Historians delineate that, King Jaya Prakash Malla had established the twenty two taps there in Balaju; and later King Rana Bahadur Shah had made a big tap in the middle of the taps. Since then it’s believed that the Baishdhara fair was started. Baishdhara is located at Balaju in Kathmandu on the way to the Trisuli high way. It’s just one and half kilometer away from the Royal Palace. Thousands of devotees herd there to take bath in the 22 tap of Balaju for their spiritual purification and in the belief of many diseases’s treatment. Near by the tap, Lord Vishnu Narayan’s temple has been situated there. A recycling replica of Lord Vishnu Narayan’s has been built there in the middle of a small pond. This recycling Lord’s replica has been built in the representation of the original Lord Narayan’s feature of Budhanilkantha which is a few kilometer far on the northern side of Kathmandu. There’s a very interesting story on the establishment of this temple here in Balaju. It was the Malla regime’s period; and King Pratap Malla was the King of Katmandu at that time (1698-1731 A.D.). Once King Pratap Malla constructed a small pond at his palace in Hanumandhokha; and established lord Vishnu Narayan’s idol there in it’s center; then he brought the water to pour there form Budhanilkantha temple. A few days later while he was sleeping; lord Narayan appeared in his dream and oracle that “Now onwards if he and his descendants will come to visit that temple, they all will immediately die”. Because lord Narayan was very much enraged with him on bringing the water from there. Though King Pratap Malla thought of visiting the temple for the Lord’s audience. But immediately, a forceful typhoon and serpents appeared there on his way; and king the King had to cancel his journey and returned back to his palace because of this terrifying divinely episode. That’s why since that the Kings of Nepal never go to take darshan (audience) at there in Bhudhanilkantha. So the King Pratap Malla had built this Balaju’s Lord Narayan’s temple in the representatioin of Budhanilkantha temple for the Royal families’ audience. This is the brief story on the establishment of lord Narayan’s temple there near the Balaju Baisdhara. Thousands of devotees flock there to take bath in this place. Devotees believe that, after taking the holy bath there in this Baisdhara; al of their vices and diseases disappear. So even 75 to 80 yrs elderly devotees too have been seen arrived there to take the holy bath in this fair fro the away distances of the Nepal. After completion the devotion. The devotees rejoice there singing and dancing in the festive mood. The entrance ticket is free of cost on this day for all the visitors.
