Cosmic Air started as a domestic airline based in Kathmandu, Nepal, with its operations from 1997 with two MI 17 Helicopters. The aircraft fleet was upgraded in 1998-99 with a Dornier 228 aircraft and further in 2000-01 with two SAAB 340 aircraft. It was then quite a feat as Cosmic Air was the first airline to introduce second-generation turbo prop aircraft with pressurized cabin within the domestic flights. And in October 2004 the first Fokker 100 Jet Aircraft was added to the fleet.

Cosmic Air has revolutionized the domestic operations by introducing jet aircraft since November 2004 on its trunk routes, which were previously operated by turbo prop aircraft for the last 35 years.

Cosmic Air then expanded in a phenomenal fashion by operating regional flights to India and Bangladesh with its twice-daily flights to Delhi and five weekly flights to Dhaka.

Cosmic Air is a subsidiary of SOI Group, a conglomerate of 14 companies with interests in Tourism, Aviation, Banking, Telecommunications, General Trading, Manufacturing, and Hydropower among others. The Group is among the leading business houses of Nepal and is one of the largest taxpayers in the country. With an annual turnover of over USD 300 million, SOI is one of the largest organizations in terms of employment generation in Nepal.

Cosmic Air is the largest airline in Nepal in terms of fleet, seat capacity and traffic carriage. Its fleet consists of 4 Fokker 100 jet aircraft, 2 Dorniers (2 more are under a maintenance programme) and 1 SAAB 340.

    Unique Selling Point (USP)

Cosmic Air has positioned itself as a low cost carrier and is able to pass back the savings to the consumers with its affordable fares. Our Fokker aircraft all have a single class configuration with 105 leather-bound seats and boast a seat pitch of over 32 inch, thus ensuring generous legroom on any given sector.

Cosmic Air has better connectivity to Nepal’s No. 1 gateway – Delhi than any other carrier. Currently it is operating two flights with convenient timings & permission for the third daily flight is awaited from the Indian DGCA.

With the cultural and historical relations prevailing between India and Nepal, a significant number of Indian tourists (up to 40 percent of the tourist arrivals) visit Nepal every year for various reasons, whether it be business, shopping, casino or even to escape the heat. With its nationwide connections and better connectivity between the two capitals, Cosmic Air can offer unparalleled flight frequencies to all incoming tourists.
