Trekking in Nepal is the ultimate nature experience. Why rush from one attraction to the next when you can slowly take in the amazing beauty of Nepal whilst breathing in the fresh mountain air. Nepal's unique landscape is ideal for hiking. People from all generations will enjoy a Nepalese trekking experience whether a day-walk or a 5-day hike. Numerous companies offer guided trekking in Nepal and the trails are generally quite distinguishable. Trekking packages are designed and classified according to their difficulty and duration of holiday in Nepal. That means there are different grades of trekking in Nepalese Himalyas.
The trekking equipment and clothing you need is what you normally wear and use in mountains and hills with a few additional items.
Trekking in Nepal is also a cultural experience as you will come across quaint villages and quiet monasteries whilst traversing the challenging terrain. To become truly acquainted with the magnificent land of Nepal, trekking is a must for all visitors to the country.Trekking in Nepal can be categorized into four types which tend to overlap. Let us consider these four categories of trekking:
Backpacking Backpackers carry all their necessary equipment and food whilst trekking. This is not really necessary when trekking in Nepal as food is readily available at villages in the hills. Backpacking however does work if you are planning on trekking at higher altitudes as villages and accommodation cannot be found above 4 500m except at Everest and Annapurna Sanctuary. If it is your goal to trek to high lying areas you may wish to adopt a more mountaineering approach. You can leave the bulk of your gear at a temporary camp and then hike further up with a lighter load.
Teahouse Treks Teahouse can be used interchangeably with the terms hotel and lodge. Such places provide trekkers with accommodation and food. This is the most popular form of trekking in Nepal. This method allows you to carry just a few necessities and eat at the teahouses. Teahouses are relatively inexpensive, becoming more costly at high altitudes and in isolated areas. It is advisable to bring your own bedding when on a teahouse trek as you cannot be sure how clean the beds are. Teahouses are a great way to meet fellow trekkers from around the world and many friendships have been developed this way. It is also a great opportunity to see how local Nepalese people live in the hills. Because you are very reliant on villages and teahouses if you decide to hike in this manner it is vital to stick to well-defined paths and inhabited areas. It is important that you are aware of problems that can arise on this trekking approach, such as closed lodges, or lodges lacking food. You will however find this an exciting way to familiarize yourself with Nepal and its culture.
Self-Arranged Treks This type of trek involves organizing your own guides/sherpas, porters, equipment and food. The porters will carry your equipment whilst the sherpas will assist you to set up camp and prepare meals and you will sleep in tents. Those who have gone for this option have had a wonderful time especially if they have gone with a group of friends. Trekking agencies in Nepal often hire out equipment and will organize porters and sherpas for you.
Trekking with a Trekking Agency/Company Trekking agencies in Nepal offer a variety of packages for group and individual hikes. Trekking operators may work from your own home country and can also help you make travel arrangements to and from Nepal. Such treks require that you book on a specific trek on a particular route for a set number of days. The disadvantage here is that you cannot deviate from the schedule and take longer stop overs or side trips. Often times you will only meet the people you are trekking with at the start. This is a great way to make friends with people from around the world. Trekking agencies in Nepal will be able to provide you with lists of equipment required and various precautions etc.
Trekking in Nepal is an unforgettable experience. Though it requires a certain level of fitness, people of all sorts will have a wonderful time as they trek through Nepal's diverse natural wonders and become acquainted with the local people.
