 The couplet emblematically speaks and clarifies the unbiased respect Nepalese hold of the different religious shrines irrespective of the caste, creed and culture. Not only Nepalese but also Tourists are also equally tempted by the magic and charm of Gompas and monasteries. Historically and architecturally important monasteries have played a significant role in alluring tourists and generating foreign currency besides advocating the true pictures of Nepalis’ soul, passion, aspiration, ideology, hospitality, uniqueness and geography in international level. Moreover, monasteries, as being centre of meditation for bodhisatwa, study, research and religious performace, visitor come to observe, study and involve in various activities of gompa. Many tourists interest in Buddhism study, research, and sightseeing also visibly portrays the fact. According to the information provided by MMDC (Monastery Management and Development Committee) 1125 monasteries among the registered belong to Ding-Mapa community. Likewise 156, 27, 22 and 17 monasteries are related with karyupa, Gelukpa, Shakyapa, Bonpo and other lama community respectively.
To find out their archeological significance, MMDC has managed historical records. MMDC’s registration file shows that Gupa monasteries located at Tipure, Rasuwa is the oldes monastery ever found in Nepal. It is reported to be 2205 years old like wise, Bhujo and Tashi- Lhakehung monasteries located respectively at Tandi and Phu VDC of Manag are reported to have crossed 2000 years.Gompa on Bouddhanath Kathmandu Likewise Chyaduk monastery located at Kermi, Khagal Gomba in Khagal VDC, Jumla are reported to have been 1530 and 1524 years old. Mankhang monastery based on Gorkha, Pema-Thang monastery based on Chumchen etc are about 1500 years old. Our short data analysis brought us to the conclusion that Sindhupalchok, Kavre and Makwanpur have the highest number of Monasteries in that order. In those districts 160, 150, 99 monasteries have been recorded. According to the foreign cultural expert Corneille Jest, ‘all the monasteries are attached to Degon-pa, Yul-gi-iha-khang, Bla-brang, Mimtshogs-pa and Mthsam-khang. Besides archeological, historical and cultural attraction, education is another unavoidable aspects of monasteries. It is assumed that about 100 thousands are studying in monasteries in different levels. Capturing all glimpse of religious, cultural, artistic, spiritual and sole touching aspects into camera and presenting it in the form of documentary is also less interesting and attracting.
