Haribodhani Ekadashi is one of the most significant festivals of the Hindus. It falls on the eleventh day of the kartik bright fortnight (November). It’s also called the Tulasi Bibaha day (Basil’s weeding Day). The devotees in every Hindu Family’s house worship Tulasi in the grand manner on this day. Since this day the Chaturmasha pious four months are ended. Chaturmasha is the holy four months; on which period Lord Vishnu remained reclining in front of the demon king Bali’s palace on his request; after four month; on this Haribodhani Ekadashi day he goes in his paradise. So mythology believes that; those who take fasting by eating only pious foods viz. without meat, alcohol, onion, garlic and some other pious foods; he will get good life and he will be taken to heaven after his death. The hard fasting religious persons bathe every day early in the morning and eat only one time a day or stay only consuming fruits during these four months; and do not sleep even on the cot too. This is a very hard fasting procedure and the scriptures say “ If some one completes this fasting; then theirs is a great virtue for him and all of his heinous crimes’ vices also will disappear.” So the virtuous people try to complete the fasting. Those who can’t do this fasting; they abandon only the fleshy items during these months to earn the virtue. Theists have a great belief on this Chaturmasa fasting to relinquish their vices and to get the happy virtuous life.

During these four months the Chaturmasa Mahapuran pujas are arranged in the reputed temples by inviting Bhramin Priests there. Devotees go to worship and listen the religious sermons and the benedictions from the priests; sing the lord’s hymns and dance; then offer  some monetary donations as per their capacity to the lord. During these four months the devotes crowd to temple to listen the Chaturmasa Purans.

Haribodhani Ekadashi is the last day of the Chaturmasa. On this day the devotees donate money, foods and clothes to the Bhraman priests and the poor for virtue. A huge religious congregation takes place in the renowned rivers’ confluence in Nepal to cross the pious rope Toran; which fair looks very spectacular like the other important festivals. The Toran is the virtuous long rope mad up with the Babiyo Grass; where many kinds of flowers are inserted there in this rope. Along with the flower, some small malingo and bamboo’s baskets, sachets, winnows, wooden articles and so on things are hanged together there in the rope. The rope belongs very long and it’s rolled together and kept in a palanguin; then carried it by the devotees to some holy rivers singing the lord’s hymns and dancing jubilantly all the way long in the name of the lord. The virtous people who organize this puja bear all the expenses of this puja and offer prasads to the attendants in this religious function. Because of chanting the lord’s hymns and dancing al the way long the religious procession looks very lovely and interesting; also some people offer flowers and money coins to the palanquin. The  religious procession complete only when  the holy ropes are hanged crossing across the river; then the devotees take the holy dip in the river from different part of the borough to hang to Toran through out the day so the religious fete looks very much charming to observe. Devotees bring the Toran from far away distance’s precincts for the virtue; then the ceremony ends in the evening only. So on the other hand this occasion is called the Ful Tarne Ekadashi as well means the flower-crossing day.

Another important aspect I have to describe here is the significant of the Basil plant. I have already explained in some other chapters that the Basil is regarded as the real feature of Lord Vishnu; since he had to become this by the curse of true husband devotee Bindhya who was the wife of Jalandhar demon. So the hindus respect it highly as a form of lord Vishnu. Also there are some materialistic believes on this plant. It’s believed that if some one has worshipped the Basil, the evil spirits may not be able to make him any kind of sick. Scientist have also proved that the Basil has the capacity to kill the human’s infections germs to some of its distances; and protests us to be falling from sickness. The Hindus believe that if we take bath by Basil’s water it can drive away our sins as the holy Gangas do.

If some one in the Hindu family is about to breathe his last; he is sprinkled and fed Tulasi’s water to reach him in the heaven easily; so it’s believed that the dead man and the water sprinkler both of them will earn virtue at this time. That’s why the Basil wedding day (tulasi bibaha) or we can say the Haribodhani Ekadashi day has a great religious importance in the Hindu scriptures. Thousands of devotees assemble at
Changu Narayan Temple, Bichankhu Narayan Temple, Sesh Narayan Temple, Ichankhu Narayan Temple which is called char Narayan Dham.

This is my description of Haribodhani ekadashi, Am i right guys? Hindu devotees across the country are worshipping lord Bishnu to celebrate the Haribodani Ekadashi today. Devotees today practice fasting and worship at the temples of lord Bishnu-the survivor throughout the day. Likewise, Hindus offer worship to the Tulsi-the sacred plant- that they had planted four months back on the very day of Ashad Shukla Ekadashi in their compounds and courtyards. They also offer homage to the Tulsi pretending to have married the plant today. According to the Hindu mythology, lord Bishnu have to undergo a tough struggle to freed gods from the misdeeds of the demons. The god to respite from the war hardship went to Hemwati Gufa at Badriashram and fell asleep there. From the middle of a stomach of the lord, there came a beautiful lady who in the battle killed the demons and thundered the universe with the power of her arms. And the day is celebrated from the Vedic age with a belief that lord Bishnu awakened from the same thunder. The day also marked the end of Chaturmasha (the period of four months) that has begun four months back on Ashad Shukla Harisayani Ekadashi. If there is any mistake please excuse me ok.
