Serpas are high Lander, they have their own dialect and use the Tibetan Script and have many features common with Tibetan Language. They are Buddhist and believed to be migrated from Tibet nearly 600 year back. In Sherpa, community the lamas of Gumba enjoy high order respect and they believe the re-birth of these lama and they at the time of death usually forecast their future place of re-birth. Sherpa belonged to the Hingmapa branch of Bijarayan sect of Buddhism.
Their dresses and culture are similar to Tibetans. Sherpa male also keep long hair like ladies and twist in series in the same way. Both wear coat (bakhu) and male also wear golden ear rings where as ladies wear all sorts of ornaments. They are farmers and at place like Namche they have became businessmen. They also weave carpet and blanket.
Sherpa have usually two storey house and at the base they keep animal and on the top for living and the kithchen. Polyandry is seen at few places. Loshar, Mani-rimdu are their famous and photuk and nesu are their important festivals. They enjoy beer and salt-butter-tea.
