Everest Base Camp continues to be one of our most rewarding journeys.One of the classic treks in Nepal , Everest base camp is most commonly visited as a two week trek starting and finishing at Lukla, the airport just to the south of Everest National park . The trek to Everest Base Camp (5400m) is without doubt one of the most famous in the world.
For decades, adventurers have been drawn to the romance of Mount Everest. The Everest Trek typically starts in Kathmandu with a coach trip to Jiri, followed by a week's trek to Lukla (2850 m). (If time is an issue, you can choose to fly straight to Lukla.) From Lukla you walk to the famous Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar and on to the Tengboche Buddhist Monastery, with its panoramic view of Everest (8848 m), Cho Oyu (8152 m), Lhotse (8516 m), Makalu (8463 m) and Ama Dablam (6456 m). Then it's across the glaciers to the foot of Mount Everest, and one of the most spectacular views of your life! For many their journey to Nepal would not be complete without a glimpse of the highest mountain on Earth. For some it will be enough to view Everest from the Kathmandu valley rim on a clear day, it is also possible to sit in the comfort of a plane seat for the experience. Others however settle only for a more intimate meeting with the last earthly rung on the stairway to the heavens. Everest area is the most popular trekking region in Nepal. This trek into Everest Base Camp is strenuous but does not require that you have any previous trekking or mountaineering experience. The Everest Region is within Sagamartha National Park established in 1976 it lies some 120 kms North East of Kathmandu and covers an area of 1,148 sq. kms of the Himalayan ecological zoneU.N.E.S.C.O. listed the Park as a World Heritage Site in 1979. The park is largely composed of rugged terrain and deep gorges within an elevation of 2845m in the South to 8848m, the summit of Everest in the North. The vegetation at lower levels is dominated by silver fir, birch, rhododendron and juniper trees, at around 4500m the forest gives way to Juniper and rhododendron scrub. The park contains a variety of mammals, Himalayan thar, musk deer, the Himalayan red panda and the Himalayan black bear are all native to the park. Pictures of Mount Everest
