Nepal will announce the 14th Asian Mountain Bike Championship in Kathmandu from November 6-10, 2008. Nepal was granted the opportunity to host the event after two unsuccessful attempts. Around 200 cyclists from 22 nations are expected to take part in the tournament which features two events - cross country and downhill race. The date and the venue were finalized after Nepal Cycling Association (NCA) and Asian Cycling Federation (ACF) signed a memorandum of understanding in Beijing. The NCA president Chimmi Urgen Gurung, who is currently in Beijing and general secretary of ACF Cho Hi, will sing the MoU. The estimated organizing costs would be around Rs 15 million, said Gurung. The ACF will provide technical support and Gurung expects the Nepal government to kick in 20 per cent of the total costs. Meanwhile, the ACF general assembly will also be held in Nepal during the Asian Mountain Bike Championship. Organizer team and other Nepal tourism sector personnel hope that this Asian Mountain Bike Championship tournament will increase our Nepalese tourism sector rapidly. It helps to establish the mountain biking tour in Nepal for coming future.
